Our journey begins with a scenic drive through Crete’s lush vineyards, where the island’s famous grape varieties flourish. Our first stop is Saint Thomas Village, located at an altitude of 760 meters. Here, you’ll discover Byzantine churches dating back to 1371 AD. Also the remnants of an ancient Byzantine aqueduct, and the Roman tombs.
Monastery of Odigitria
Continuing through the Messara Valley, we head towards the 14th century Monastery of Odigitria. Surrounded by olive groves, this beautiful monastery houses a museum showcasing artifacts from the daily lives of locals. It’s a peaceful stop that connects us to Crete’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Agiofarago Gorge – Walk through Nature
The adventure continues in our Land Rover jeeps towards the entrance of the Agiofarago Gorge. This gorge is a true natural wonder. On foot, you’ll experience the wild life of Crete, encountering friendly sheep and goats as you walk through the gorge. The walk is easy and enjoyable, lasting about 30 minutes before arriving at the stunning bay of Agiofarago.
Local Tavern and Cretan Lunch
After exploring the gorge, we take a break at a local tavern. There you’ll have the chance to taste a traditional Cretan lunch. Enjoy delicious local dishes, made with fresh ingredients from the island.
Matala Beach
