Starting our Lassithi Plateau tour and the Cave of Zeus we drive south.

The first highlight of our tour is the historical Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa. A monastery inhabited and run by nuns, which is located in an idyllic landscape at the heart of Crete.

Here you can witness the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, plenty of frescoes, and a variety of other icons, dating back to the 14th century.

Lassithi Plateau Tour

Lassithi Plateau is 850m above the sea level. Surrounded by the Dikti Mountains and 18 quaint villages, it still retains the atmosphere of another era. You can admire the famous windmills, the Venetian ditches, and the drainage system of the plateau.

The most famous village in the Lassithi Plateau is Psychro. In this traditional village we will pay a short visit to a traditional potter’s workshop. This ancient ceramic art completes today more than 8000 years. You will be able to watch the potters making masterpieces in just a few minutes.

Cave of Zeus

The Dikteon Cave, nestled within the scenic Lassithi Plateau, is a mesmerizing geological wonder steeped in myth and history. Its labyrinthine passages and caverns evoke a sense of awe as visitors traverse its depths. According to legend, it was here that Zeus, the king of the gods, was born, adding to the cave’s mystique. The striking stalactites and stalagmites create a surreal atmosphere, inviting exploration and contemplation. As one delves deeper into its chambers, the ancient echoes of myth and civilization resonate, making the Dikteon Cave of Zeus a truly unforgettable experience in the heart of Lassithi plateau.

Tzermiado is the next place we visit. It is the capital of the villages on the Lassithi plateau. In the lovely village of Tzermiado, you can enjoy the natural beauty, the breathtaking views, and the traditional architecture. You may take pictures of the wonderful landscape. Or rest for a while, and enjoy your lunch(optional) in one of the local taverns.
