Description

The Knossos Palace tour and Lassithi Plateau start by heading south. Our bus and tour guide will pick you up in the morning around 08:00 am. We use only the best buses and tour guides for our tours and activities.

The Monastery of Kera

The first highlight of our day trip is the historical Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa. The monastery is inhabited and run by nuns. Here you can also witness the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary,  old frescoes, and a variety of other icons. All dating back to the 14th century.

Lassithi Plateau

Lassithi Plateau is our next destination. It is 850 meters above the sea level. The plateau is surrounded by the Dikti Mountains and 18 quaint villages. It still retains the atmosphere of another era.

You can admire the remaining wind mills, the Venetian ditches and the drainage system of the plateau. The most popular village in the Lassithi Plateau is the village of Psychro. In this traditional village, we pay a short free visit to a traditional potter’s workshop. This ancient ceramic art is today more than 8000 years. You will be able to watch the potters making masterpieces in just a few minutes. You might have the chance to try it also.

The Cave of Zeus

Then we will visit the Dikteon Cave, the longest in Crete. The Cave of Zeus is a famous spot in Crete. It’s a big cave on the Mount Ida, where, according to legend, Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology, was born. Many people visit this cave every year to see where Zeus might have lived as a baby. Inside the cave, you can see impressive rock formations and feel the cool air.

Tzermiado Village

In the lovely village of Tzermiado, you can enjoy the natural beauty, the breath taking views, and the traditional architecture. You can take pictures of the wonderful landscape, rest for a while. If you wish you may also enjoy a lunch in one of the local taverns.

Leaving the Lassithi plateau we head west. Our next stop is outside Heraklion. The impressive Knossos Palace dates back to 2000 B.C. and was discovered in 1878 by Sir Arthur Evans.

Knossos Palace Tour

One hour and thirty minutes Knossos Palace guided tour by an official tour guide. The Minoan Knossos Palace is the landmark of Crete. No one should miss the opportunity to live its myth while on the island of Crete. Knossos used to be the capital of the Minoan state, one of the most powerful empires of ancient times. You will learn the history of King Minos, his daughter Ariadne, and the mythical Minotaur that lived in a maze, the so-called Labyrinth.

Exploring the Knossos archaeological site offers a captivating journey into ancient Minoan civilization. The Knossos Palace tour provides a unique glimpse into the past. Visitors leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Crete’s cultural heritage.
