Land Rover Jeep Safari Lassithi Plateau Route
Starting early in the morning from your hotel, our jeep safari drives us to the dam of Aposelemis, a beautiful landscape with a variety of Cretan wildlife. We stop our jeeps, and we have time for photos, at the submerged village of Sfendyli, since some houses’ tops are visible.
Jeep Safari to Lassithi Plateau
Heading south we stop at the village of Avdou, and visit a traditional oil factory, where we have a friendly tour and learn how the olive oil is produced. We will also taste the local variety of extra virgin olive oil.
Following a beautiful route with wild picturesque mountain landscapes and breathtaking views, stops for picking wild Cretan herbs, we reach the Plateau of Lassithi, at an altitude of 850 meters above sea level, in the heart of Crete.
Here we have our next stop, in a traditional Cretan shepherd’s paddock, called “Mitato”. We will meet the shepherd and his family and watch their daily activities, such as sheep milking and hair-cutting.
Continuing our route we visit a traditional cheese factory, where we see how the famous local cheese of Lassithi, and the rusk, are produced. We will have the chance to taste their traditional products, such as different kinds of cheese, rusk, local wine and raki.
After a scenic Jeep Safari drive through the small villages, we reach the Cave of Zeus (Dikti cave). You will have plenty of time to visit Zeus’ cave, and the theme park of Greek mythology.
The village of Psichro, will be our Crete Jeep safari next stop. Here we will taste local authentic food, baked in the wood oven, in the best tavern of the area.
After we complete our lunch we reach the Tomb of Tsoulis, by the Minoan Path. Here you can capture some incomparable photos.
The last stop of the Jeep Safari to Lassithi Plateau will be the village of Kastamonitsa, where pay a visit at the Roman Aqueduct of Lyttos.
Having passed through more than 15 villages, we end our Jeep Safari day, returning back to our hotels.

07:45 – 08:30: Pick up from your hotel
Stop: Aposelemis dam. 20 minute photo stop.
Stop: Avdou village – traditional oil factory. Enjoy an olive oil tour and oil tasting.
Stop: a shepherd’s paddock. 45 min stop for sheep milking and hair cutting.
Stop: a traditional cheese factory for cheese making. Taste different kinds of cheese, rusk, wine and raki.
Stop: the cave of Zeus and the Greek Mythology park (optional visit).
Stop: Psichro village. Lunch stop with local specialties.

16:00 – 17:00: Jeep safari arrival back.

What to Bring With You
Comfortable walking shoes with rubber soles for good grip.
